Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris started her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate.
